Interested in Becoming a Client?

Here’s what to expect

Get Started with an Introductory Call

Schedule a 30-minute call with one of our financial advisors to talk about your goals, review our
services, and discuss fees and compensation.

We want to make sure you feel comfortable and excited at every step of the process. If you’re
interested in learning more, we will proceed to the Introductory Meeting.

Introductory Meeting

This complimentary meeting with our team is designed to help us both assess if a partnership is right by having an open, honest conversation about your finances.

We’ll spend about an hour getting to know each other, and our commitment is that you’ll leave the meeting better informed and more confident than when you arrived.

Initial Financial Planning Meeting

We will present an initial financial plan and recommendations based on your goals and objectives. We’ll also answer the questions you have – and the questions you didn’t know to ask.

If you like what you see and are ready to implement, we’ll schedule the next meeting to get started.

Implementation Meeting

This is where you decide if you want to go at this alone or partner with our team, who will assist in every aspect of your plan moving forward.

Our recommended actions bring your dynamic plan to life, and all Mason team members will assist in its implementation and updates, which happen at least once a year

Strategic Planning Meetings

Your initial plan is not meant to last for the next 30 years. Life happens. Your health, personal goals, and retirement plan will change, so we constantly monitor your plan and provide guidance to keep things accurate and effective.

Strategic Planning Meetings occur as often as necessary, with at least one a year. These meetings are crucial in reaching your goals, and will result in tangible action items to keep you on track.

Have more on your mind?

Do you work exclusively with federal employees?

No. While we’ve specialized in financial planning for federal employees, we also serve many private sector and state employees. We ask non-federal employees to provide benefit information and statements to help maximize their employer-sponsored benefits.

Can you work with me if I don’t live in Virginia?

We can work with clients nationwide. Our virtual meetings offer convenient, flexible support wherever you live. If you’re in Virginia, you can always schedule a time to stop by our office and say “hi!”

Who will I work with once I become a client?

At Mason, we believe the best plan is one that is implemented by a collaborative team who can offer various perspective and expertise. As a “medium but mighty” team, we provide expert guidance throughout the year while taking the time to understand you, your family, and your circumstances.

How often will we meet once I’m a client?

We aim to meet with clients for a Strategic Planning Meeting at least once a year to address any changes in a clients’ personal circumstances. We are available throughout the year for emails, phone calls, and meetings as needed.

Can you help other members of my family?

We believe that comprehensive financial planning includes helping our clients’ family members and loved ones. After becoming a client, we’re committed to scheduling an Introductory Call with anyone you care about—whether it’s family, friends, co-workers. We’ll do everything we can to assist them, even if the relationship isn’t the right fit.

Are you a fiduciary firm?

Yes, we are fiduciaries, which means that we are required to put our clients’ interests ahead of our own. In addition, we are fee-only, meaning our clients are the only ones who pay us, primarily through our investment management fee.

How do you get paid?

Once you are an ongoing client of ours, we get paid via the investments under our management. We believe this helps align our interests, ensures we are only compensated by our clients, and improves the efficiency and effectiveness of our payment structure. Investment management fees deducted from an IRA are nontaxable distributions to the client. This is a tax efficient way to pay Mason & Associates.

Every quarter, you’ll see our fee, giving you the chance to decide if we’re delivering the value you expect. As a fee-only firm, we receive no commissions and are compensated solely by you, our client.

What is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP)?

A Certified Financial Planner (CFP) is a professional designation awarded to individuals who meet rigorous education, examination, experience, and ethical standards set by the CFP Board of Standards. CFPs are highly trained in financial planning to help clients achieve their financial goals.

All of our advisors hold industry credentials and bring years of experience to the table. We leverage our deep financial planning expertise, extensive experience, and commitment to a strict code of ethics to deliver personalized advice tailored to your unique needs.

When should you call your Financial Planner?

We want to help you in all aspects of your financial plan. Unfortunately, clients occasionally forget to call us when life throws them a curve ball. Or worse, they assume that we can’t help. Please allow us to serve your family to the best of our ability by giving us the chance to help, even if you can’t see a connection to your financial plan.
